There is no doubt; the city of Agra has the best ancient architectural wonders. Itmad-Ud-Daula Tomb is one amongst them. Located across the River Yamuna was built by the Empress Nur Jahan in 1622, in the memory of her Father Mirza Ghiyaz Beg. It resembles the shape of a jewel box and it is set in a garden. The walls are made up of white marble, and the precious stones are encrusted in the tomb. One must visit this place. It may not be as huge as Taj Mahal, but is truly a masterpiece and was built way before Taj Mahal.

Agra Fort:

Built by Akbar as a military establishment in 1565, the red sandstone Agra Fort was converted into a palace by his grandson Shah Jahan during his time. The structure of the fort has many buildings and is like a city inside the city. The Pearl Mosque inside the fort is one of the best mosques in India. Today many buildings are closed for the visitors. Some of the buildings inside the fort are Jodha Bai’s Palace, Jahangir Mahal, Khas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and many more.

Mankameshwar Temple:

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located at Rawatpara near Agra fort railway station. Behind the main temple there are several other temples of the deities like Goddess Ganga, Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Gayatri, Lord Hanuman to name a few.

Fatehpur Sikri:

It is 37 kilometres from Agra, built in red sandstones by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar, was ones the capital city of Mughals. It is a World Heritage Site and often visited by the tourists. It is a perfect blend of the Hindu and the Muslim culture. Jodha Bai’s palace, Panch Mahal is some of the monuments within Fatehpur Sikri.

This Mughal Architectural masterpiece is nestled in the grounds of Sikandara in the suburbs of Agra on the Mathura road. Akbar himself had selected the place and also had started working on it. After his death his son Jahangir completed the construction of this site. These are some of the places of Agra.
